Overview

We are seeking a highly organised and motivated Systems Engineer Verification & validation to join our proactive and innovative team.

This role will provide holistic lifecycle Systems Engineering support to replenish activities within the customers program.

Although not a purist systems engineer role, the role requires a systems thinking mindset and the application of these methods, approaches, tools and techniques.

Efforts are centred on the packaging of the containment systems.

Transition to detailed design is planned for the end of January, and preparations are underway.

Site requirements are currently fluid, with most team members working remotely.

Responsibilities

  • V&V
    • You will be responsible for verifying and validating real-time systems and software for the next generation containment gloveboxes.
    • This is a technical hands-on role and will involve designing and implementing Test Cases for safety-critical systems and software.
    • Defining the process for validating manufactured equipment (e.g., gloveboxes) via Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT).
    • Preparing Site Acceptance Test (SAT) plans for when equipment is delivered on-site.
  • System Concepts
    • Due to specific needs of each project, it is highly likely that projects working independently to each other will select different system solutions.
    • The Technical Leads are responsible for ensuring any concept down select considers opportunities for single, standardised, solution selection across the projects.
    • This means in practice that any tools used (Functional Means Analysis, N2 Analysis, Whole System Solution Identification, Decision Matrix, Pugh Matrix) should prioritise standardisation.
  • System Design
    • During system design phase, the standardisation initiative shall champion specific principles, including:
    • Reducing the number of different models and makes of equipment in use by seeking similarities across the projects and reuse of technical information between projects.
    • Maximising the use of common sub-systems in different equipment.
    • Minimising the number of different types, assemblies, etc.
    • Maximising the use of commercial of-the-shelf (COTS) items; or use of modified of-the-shelf (MOTS) where a COTS solution would be non-compliant to a key functional requirement.
  • Detail Design
    • During detail design phase, the increasing use of PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) and the bringing of design under configuration control shall provide the opportunity to compare technical solutions. By determining the degree of standardisation for similar products between projects and by identifying areas of commonality
  • Evolution of Design
    • Later phases of the lifecycle shall seek to reduce the diversity of supplied equipment and champion standardisation whenever the design is revisited for improvement.
    • Those elements of design output (requirements, technology solutions) where demonstrating standardisation should form the basis for any future offers / programmes.
    • Producing optioneering reports to evaluate design concepts.
    • Defining processes for design validation and requirement extraction.
    • Developing equipment specification documents for suppliers (e.g., ventilation systems, environmental monitoring systems).

Qualifications

  • BEng or equivalent in relevant engineering discipline (Electronic Engineering, Electrical and Electronic, or Communications).

Essential skills

  • Systems Engineering
    • Requirements and Use Case analysis
    • Concept assessment and design trade studies
    • System architecture design and functional modelling

    • Experience authoring Test Specifications, automated Test Scripts and compliance matrices.
    • Good problem-solving capability to investigate software/hardware issues.
    • Experience working on safety critical software (SIL3/4 or DO178C software level B/A)
    • Experience of Unit / Module / Functional Testing and also experience of developing test documentation and test coverage reports.
    • Tool Experience - VectorCast and familiarity with DOORs requirement management.
