Overview

As a Naval Architect every day at Expleo will be out of the ordinary and will require you to be dynamic and responsive to changes in technology, innovation, and client requirements. You will have the opportunity to get involved in concept surface & sub-surface vessel design, complex engineering design & analysis tasks, the creation of new & innovative tools & processes, the delivery of engineering consultancy services, and the development of decarbonisation solutions & other emerging technologies across a wide range of global maritime programmes.

We will offer successful candidates the opportunity to work in a hybrid arrangement, providing more options to balance their work and personal life whilst ensuring business needs are achieved. Your primary place of work could be one of our three main UK office locations (Bristol, Derby or Preston) and occasional travel to client sites will be required, dependent upon project.

Responsibilities

  • Secondary Structure - stiffeners, tank structures, fire/smoke/watertight boundaries
  • Auxiliary Structure - seats and mounts, supports, clipping (first principles sizing, calculations, selection, positioning, modelling and drawing)
  • Outfitting - carlings, bulwarks, deck & bulkhead linings, deck gratings etc.
  • Penetrations - sizing, structural calculations and stiffening, Class & Flag Requirements (A1 and A2)
  • System Routings - pipework, cabling, fibre optics etc.
  • General Arrangement / Compartment Layouts - modelling & drawing experience
  • Class & Flag Requirements (DNV & MCA specifically)

Qualifications

  • Degree qualified in a relevant STEM discipline (e.g., Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Marine Technology, Naval Engineering), or equivalent experience in the naval and commercial ship design, construction, or maintenance domain.
  • Professional member of a relevant engineering institution (e.g., RINA, IMarEST, IMechE, IET).
  • Recognised as an Incorporated or Chartered Engineer by the UK Engineering Council (or an ability to achieve within 12 months).

Essential skills

  • An understanding of classification society rules, regulations and standards in the design, construction and in-service lifecycle phases.
  • A readiness to grow & develop your technical & behavioural competence to operate at the cutting edge of your discipline.
  • The drive to work in a collaborative environment with a natural curiosity and continuous improvement approach, challenging yourself and others to find new solutions.
  • A proven track record of delivering reliability, productivity & quality in a technical consultancy environment.
  • A passion to grow & support others through strong technical leadership, helping to identify new opportunities for technical & behavioural development and progression.

Desired skills

  • Experience of working in multi-company and engineering discipline teams with an ability to communicate effectively.
  • Experience in a technical consulting environment, leading and/or supporting multiple engineering projects & customers.
