Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Data Migration Lead to drive and oversee our enterprise-wide data migration and structuring initiatives. This role is pivotal in shaping and executing our data strategy, ensuring seamless migration across complex environments, and managing cross-functional teams and external vendors.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Data Migration stream, ensuring successful migration of all master and transactional data into SAP and Workday ERP.
  • Design and implement robust data structures that support business objectives and compliance requirements.
  • Create and maintain an overarching data migration strategy and produce/quality migration deliverables, aligning with business goals and technological capabilities.
  • Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies to ensure data quality, security, and compliance throughout the migration process.
  • Manage data quality across different phases of the data migration and making sure that data is fit for purpose.
  • Lead and work collaboratively with third-party vendors, internal IT teams, and business stakeholders to ensure timely and effective delivery of data initiatives.
  • Provide technical expertise and produce necessary documentation on Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) activities including data cleansing and testing.
  • Perform data migration audit, reconciliation and exception reporting.
  • Work with subject matter experts and project team to identify, define, collate, document and communicate the data migration requirements.
  • Work across multiple functional work streams to understand data usage and implications for data migration. Develop and communicate best practices, processes, and standards for effectively carrying out data migration activities.
  • Lead initiatives for data integrity and governance.
  • Perform source data identification and analysis in order to manage source to target data mapping.
  • Managing master and transactional data, including creation, updates, and deletion.
  • Assist the ERP Programme Technical Lead planning and executing the implementation programme.
  • Provide expert knowledge and leadership in solving complex data migration challenges.
  • Responsible for team management, scheduling and coordinating resources for all data ETL (Extract, Transform and Load), mapping and cleansing activities.
  • Manage/Develop migration dress rehearsals, migration cutover plan and post go-live support.
  • Engage with the Solution Architect to ensure the alignment of the broad architecture viewpoint.
  • Ensure data migration solutions meet the strategic, financial, reporting and operational requirements of the business.
  • Responsible for ensuring good data quality, both pre and post migration.
  • Produce all necessary data migration documentation including overarching strategy, data mapping specifications, data quality metrics and test plans.
  • Accountable for all data migration artefact's and other deliverables, including migration activity design and rehearsals.
  • Ensure all deliverables are aligned to all relevant governance requirements, including Design Authorities.
  • Lead/Participate in programme workshops, meetings and formal events.
  • Produce robust yet simple data migration routines that are both logical and maintainable.
  • Produce robust test plans that validate the quality of the migrated data.
  • Ensure the data migration meets the strategic, financial, reporting and operational requirements.
  • Ensure successful handover to BAU team. Provide input in to ERP Programme communications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Certifications in data management or cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).

Essential skills

  • Strong background in data migration, architecture, structuring, and governance.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and document data strategies.
  • Preferably strong ERP skills, specifically SAP and/or Workday 
  • Strong SQL Server skills including SQL, stored procedures and functions.
  • SSIS beneficial too.
  • Strong logical understanding of relational data concepts.
  • Good general development skills including windows permissions file shares and scheduled jobs.
  • Familiarity with modern data platforms, cloud technologies, and data integration tools.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills with diligent attention to detail and quality of output

Experience

  • Proven experience leading large-scale data migration projects in enterprise environments during all phases of the lifecycle of an ERP implementation.
  • Experienced in working with both software vendors and system integrators.
  • Experience managing cross-functional teams and external vendors.

  • The expectation is that you will be able to work on client site in Derby 1-2 days per week or as the programme requires.
  • Fluency in English is required to effectively communicate with clients.
