As part of our continued support to a major customer in the space industry, we are looking for a Quality Inspector to ensure the conformity of satellite components to customer requirements and support quality assurance efforts in our client’s facility. This role involves conducting quality inspections, monitoring cleanliness and contamination standards, and ensuring on-time, on-cost delivery with a “right first time” approach.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure conformity of AIT operations within the Cleanroom in accordance with Plans, Processes and Procedures for the Satellites and Ground Support Equipment, to approved quality standards

  • Responsible and accountable for the correct “as built as design” validation
  • Responsible for the environmental and H&S control of assembly, integration & test activities in accordance with the appropriate standards.
  • Promote quality first mind-set through AIT Operations aimed at prevention of non-quality in the cleanroom.
  • Monitor and drive world class workmanship standards and clean room practices / processes
  • Perform design and integrity verification inspections on Flight Hardware and Test set-up in accordance with Airbus D&S inspection criteria to ensure that the build complies with established design and quality rules.
  • Participate in the improvement & update of the Visual Inspection Criteria Database
  • Identify and record non-conformities and investigate with Operations Team Leader, QA and Lead Engineer / Process Owner
  • Root cause analysis of non-quality events with AIT QA to prevent further occurrence
  • Perform internal audits on cleanroom activities as directed by AIT Quality Assurance group
  • Complete QVP verifications as directed by AIT Quality Assurance group
  • Assist AIT QA in KIP activities throughout Payload assembly and test lifecycle as defined by AIT schedule
  • Support specific operational tasks such as critical move, Ready for Test process activities and flight packing
  • Promote Health and Safety and 5S culture in cleanroom. Monitor operators & visitors in line with policy
  • Ensure work environment in cleanroom is compliant with Health & Safety policy and any risks are mitigated.
  • Perform documentation checks, paperwork completion and approval of reworks as required.
  • Control and maintenance of quarantined Equipment, accountability box and payload protection material.
  • Review and verify the certification of AIT staff participating in the various process activities, through the skills matrix and certification procedures.
  • Role is predominantly based within the AIT Cleanroom, Portsmouth working on and around the Communications Module as it is built and tested.
  • The role will involve working at height, within tight spaces and with chemicals.

Qualifications

  • Fully Indentured Apprenticeship in Mechanical / Production / Manufacturing
  • Minimum BTEC ONC or equivalent qualification  in Manufacturing or Engineering discipline
  • IOSH Managing Safely.

Essential skills

  • Knowledge and experience with 'Critical Moves'.
  • Good team player and have excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated with ability to prioritise their time to meet quality and schedule commitments.
  • Ability to accomplish verification activities and uphold appropriate quality standards.
  • Computer literacy to provide data, reports, or statistics, generally using Microsoft Office templates.
  • Willingness to work on shift or off-site when required.
  • Flexibility to travel, on occasion, within the UK and abroad if necessary.

Experience

  • 1 year experience as Quality Inspector

  • Understanding & knowledge of Space/Aerospace Quality Assurance Requirements

  • Previous experience of inspection activities (Quality Inspector background) or Assembly operations in Space / Aerospace industry

  • Knowledge and experience with 'Critical Moves'.
