Overview

We are seeking a highly organised and motivated Integration, Verification, Validation and Quality Engineer to join our proactive and innovative team.

 

As a Senior IVVQ Engineer, you will be responsible for all aspects of system integration and system testing for solutions that meet the needs of our clients and users within the rail domain.

 

You will work closely with cross-functional teams to understand requirements, author test scripts and tools, carry out functional testing and ensure the reliable delivery of our products and solutions into revenue. You will work primarily within our tram and light rail team but will also be required to work across our portfolio of major urban rail, mainline rail and telecoms projects.

 

Successful Candidates are expected to be required work on our customer site 2 - 3 days per week. There are 2 customer sites we are looking to support Cheadle and Central London.There may be some additional limited travel requirements to the Birmingham area.

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with other engineering disciplines and other stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of the project.
  • Understand and lead the project IVVQ processes and methodologies, and use the defined tools as set out in the GTS Management System and the project-specific IVVQ Management Plans and Engineering Management Plans.
  • Keep up-to-date with the latest technologies, tools, and trends in IVVQ development.
  • Support Work Package Managers with timely provision of status, accurate measurement of progress and forecasting of remaining work and by identifying change, variation, risk and opportunity to the work package manager wherever the scope of works is impacted.
  • Where appointed, act as WPM and lead the IVVQ team operationally.
  • Act as a mentor and/or instructor to all members of the IVVQ teams.
  • Interface with the client to gain approval of test specifications and host acceptance testing activities such as FAT or SAT events
  • Write and/or approve test plans, test strategy documents and test specifications taking into account difficult testing environments
  • Execute test specifications according to test plans and project schedule, and record and/or approve results of test execution.
  • Raise/investigate/verify defects.
  • Develop tools to support efficient and effective IVVQ tasks.
  • Maintain agreed quality targets and standards.
  • Lead the identification and closure of site defects, technical debt, performance bottlenecks, and other engineering issues.

Qualifications

  • BEng or equivalent in relevant engineering discipline (Electronic Engineering, Electrical and Electronic, or Communications).

Essential skills

  • Extensive experience in systems development, with a deep understanding of IVVQ principles and methodologies.
  • Proven experience in testing and integrating complex systems, preferably in tram, rail and/or telecoms domains.
  • Solid understanding of systems architecture and design patterns.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Varied experience working in an engineering environment and understanding of engineering delivery methodologies.
  • Excellent problem-solving ability, trade-off skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and coach team members.
  • Be able to define and manage configuration control
  • Proven ability to define, develop and implement IVVQ tools.
  • Experience of SW tools and deployments
  • Extensive experience of requirement management tools such as DOORS, Polarion or equivalent

Desired skills

  • Ideally has both theoretical and practical experience in configuring, testing and fault-finding network equipment, servers and workstations (Windows and Linux)
  • Excellent leadership, communication, stakeholder management, motivation and inter-personal skills
  • Ability to build and sustain strong working relationships at all levels
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, manage, mentor and coach a diverse team
  • Demonstrable experience in achieving buy-in from strong technical stakeholders

 

Experience

  • Experience in the Rail industry or Transferable IVVQ skills
  • Experience with IVVQ or similar skillsets.
  • Mainline/ETCS
    • Onboard Units (OBU)
    • Short term: Fitment/installation and SIT/SAT (including definition of test plans) of ETCS onboard equipment to Class 37 and Class 43
    • Train Control Systems Framework
    • Short term: Development/definition of IVVQ, test and commissioning strategies as part of early engineering lifecycle for phase 1 of TCSF
    • Longer term: Execution Execution of IVVQ, test and commissioning strategies for phase 1 of TCTF (system proving)
  • Tram/Light Rail
    • Manchester Metrolink
    • Short term: FAT, SIT, SAT and deployment of infrastructure renewals and SW updates
    • Sheffield Supertram & Croydon Tram
    • Short term: Development/definition of IVVQ, test and commissioning strategies as part of bids and early engineering lifecycle (signalling, comms, passenger info)
    • Longer term: Execution of IVVQ, test and commissioning strategies for Sheffield and Croydon
