We are looking for an Engineer with a strong background in Systems Engineering to help shape the future of flight as a member of our programme Team. In this role, working at TRLs 1-6, you will be responsible for Systems Engineering from requirements elucidation, development, specification and test definition, including integration across multiple aircraft systems

The customer  is developing, via a number of research and technology programmes, technology to support the development of hydrogen-powered passenger carrying aircraft. They are developing technologies to support development of  an Electric Hybrid Propulsion System  architecture and conducting associated subsystem test campaigns  The concept propulsion system includes a number of novel architecture features including hybridisation and cryogenic cooling. The programme also seeks to establish a high quality simulation of key features of a  typical  in-service standard aircraft with associated requirement set, that shall be used to derive critical technology demonstration objectives. 

 

This work is one of the hydrogen research programmes which the customer is leading, the programme is currently within a technology development phase of a number of technologies and subsystems.  

 

The programme is focused on requirement capture for a notional aircraft and system combination focused on an entry into service standard of hardware. Development of the aircraft and system architecture is being completed internally by the customer. Capture of this requirement set then forms the basis of validation and verification requirements for the powertrain associated technologies. In addition the requirement set defines contractual specifications for a number of supplier work-packages.

Responsibilities

  • The programme requires sub-contract systems engineering/ requirements engineering capability in order to complete project objectives.
  • This will involve close working with the systems engineering team other specialist domain and subsystem teams.
  • The work shall be led by the Principal stems Engineer (WorkStream Lead), supported by the Technical Authority – Controls & Systems.  During this period, the key objectives are:
    • Primary
      • Update existing platform / system  and  subsystem requirements  in key areas to service technology launch activities. Implementing ‘to-do’ items in Codebeamer, re-structuring requirements management structure where appropriate.
      • Adding requirement traceability links.
      • Completing Design Iteration requirement updates.
      • Ensuring completion of requirement sets for the set of distinct priority system platforms
      • Ensure requirements framework structure is created to support the future project state (e.g. to support future technology test platforms)
      • Quality checks , liaising with cross-domain team members to ensure requirement quality standards are achieved..
      • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
    • Secondary  -
      • Develop suitable requirements architecture for future project alignment.
      • Develop Verification &Validation requirements framework strategy
      • Support the systems team develop the MBSE architecture and ensure consistency with the requirements structure
  • Regular reviews will be held with the supervising manager to check for progress and consistency of requirement set.

  • Individuals’ identification must be comfortable with presentation and technical report drafting of their work, and be prepared to discuss and review it with members of the hydrogen programmes engineering team as required.

Essential skills

  • Ability to work across domain teams and levels within an organisation
  • Systems engineering competency
  • Comfortable working in early stage system development.
  • Experienced working to and developing requirements quality standards
  • Write technical reports and present to technical reviews

Desired skills

  • MBSE competency
  • Structured verification knowledge
  • Familiar or experience with physical system modelling or design (MATLAB/ SIMULINK / SImScape/ AMESIM or similar) in electrical, fluid, thermal or mechanical domains

Experience

  • Requirements Engineering experienced (ideally within an R&T / R&D context),
  • Codebeamer – experienced user
  • Experienced in knowledge management.
  • Aerospace domain relevant knowledge & experience
  • Experienced in development of system architecture solutions against a requirement set

What do I need before I apply

  • On-site support and co-located with the Workstream teams developing the technology is mandatory for a minimum of three days per week due to the fast moving and collaborative nature of the programme, which requires on-site attendance to adequately capture the requirement set at the current stage of the programme.
