Overview

We are seeking a Principal Systems Engineer (Flight Control Systems with extensive years of experience to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the defence industry and Flight Control, Design, Requirements, Verification, Validation and Testing - Ideally with strong expertise across the V life cycle, and Authoring Documentation. We are looking for a Engineer who promotes a mindset of attention to detail, communication, and teamwork within there team. Candidates with a good understanding of working within the Flight Control Systems area, with experience across the 'V' lifecycle processes and methodologies should apply.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

 

We are looking for a flight controls systems engineer to support our customer with design, development, testing and certification of aircraft control systems, used to stabilise, guide and automate aircraft movement within defined safety and operational performance parameters.

 

Aspects of the role may include:

  • Assisting to develop software and algorithms to support flight control systems development.
  • Definition of auto-throttle and wave-off logic
  • Definition of Flight Control System (FCS) software integration and sensors for dynamic glidepath tracking 
  • Creating control laws and algorithms
  • Using MBSE tools such as Enterprise Architect, MATLAB and Simulink.
  • Cross functional collaboration
  • Requirements Management 
  • Verification and Validation
  • Authoring Test Scrips
  • Running and Managing Tests
  • Debugging
  • Report writing
  • Preparing certification documentation

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (Master's degree preferred)
  • Proven experience in systems engineering, preferably within the defence or aerospace industry ideally registered with INCOSE

Essential skills

  • Significant experience, working with flight control systems.
  • Demonstrable experience in systems engineering tools and methodologies, such as requirements management, model-based systems engineering (MBSE), and system modelling languages (e.g., SysML).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and propose innovative solutions
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Experience with project management practices and tools, including schedule management, risk analysis, and resource allocation
  • Eligibility for security clearance (dependent on project requirements)

Desired skills

  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulations, such as ARP4754, MIL-STD, DO-178C, DO-331 and DO-254, is desirable
  • Experience of R&D in flight control systems would be an advantage,

Experience

A minimum of 10 years engineering experience post Grad Programme.
