Expleo is a leading Global Engineering Services Provider with UK presence in 10 locations. We are seeking an experienced Electrical Designer to work with our client on a hybrid basis in Barnstaple (2 days a week on site).
This is an exciting role involving the design, analysis, and implementation of advanced electrical systems for defence applications. Working within multidisciplinary engineering teams, you’ll ensure seamless integration of electrical subsystems into larger defence platforms such as surface ships, and communications systems, maintaining functional compatibility, performance, and compliance with strict military and safety standards (e.g. MIL-STD, DEF STAN, EMC).
The position also requires involvement in testing, validation, and qualification of systems under demanding operational conditions, ensuring reliability and mission readiness. You’ll also be responsible for producing comprehensive technical documentation and for providing ongoing engineering support throughout the product lifecycle, including troubleshooting, upgrades, and obsolescence management.
Design, develop, and analyse advanced electrical systems and components for defence applications, including sonar, communications, power distribution, and control systems.
Integrate electrical subsystems into complex defence platforms such as ships, weapons systems, and communication networks, ensuring performance, reliability, and compatibility.
Ensure compliance with defence, safety, and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) standards, including MIL-STD, DEF STAN, and other relevant regulatory requirements.
Plan and conduct testing, validation, and qualification of electrical systems under military operating conditions to confirm durability and mission readiness.
Prepare detailed technical documentation such as electrical schematics, design reviews, test procedures, reports, and certification support materials.
Investigate and resolve electrical issues in both development and in-service equipment, providing technical support throughout the product lifecycle.
Contribute to continuous improvement through upgrades, obsolescence management, and application of new technologies.
Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary engineering teams, suppliers, and stakeholders to deliver integrated solutions on time and to specification.
