We are seeking a Senior Electrical Enginner to work with our client, in Cheadle.  In this role the successful candidate will play a key role in the full lifecycle development of complex underwater systems — from concept design through to integration, verification, and in-service support. You’ll work within a multidisciplinary engineering environment, contributing to the electrical and functional design of mission-critical subsystems. The role offers a unique opportunity to influence product capability, shape technical solutions, and support systems deployed worldwide in challenging maritime environments.

This role represents a great opportunity to work with a blue-chip client, contributing to the security of the UK and our allies.  Valued attributes are a team player who can use their initiative and has a real passion for engineering with an attention to detail, combined with a thorough, methodical approach to problem solving.

Responsibilities

  • Define, analyse, and manage electrical and functional requirements for underwater systems and subsystems.

  • Develop detailed electrical designs, including schematics, circuit layouts, and wiring diagrams.

  • Integrate electrical subsystems into larger sonar and mission system architectures.

  • Participate in design reviews, FMEA/FMECA processes, and configuration control activities.

  • Produce high-quality technical documentation (requirements, ICDs, design reports, test procedures).

  • Support build, integration, and verification in both laboratory and platform environments.

  • Ensure compliance with relevant electrical and defence standards (Def Stan, MIL-STD, EMC/EMI, safety).

  • Collaborate with Systems, Mechanical, and Software teams to ensure cohesive, end-to-end functionality.

  • Contribute to system trials, acceptance testing, and technical liaison with customers and suppliers.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering or related discipline.

Essential skills

  • Demonstrated experience across the full engineering lifecycle — from concept to verification.
  • Strong understanding of power distribution, control systems, grounding, EMC/EMI, and cabling.
  • Proficiency with electrical design tools (e.g. AutoCAD Electrical, Zuken, or similar).
  • Familiarity with Def Stan, MIL-STD, and naval electrical standards.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
  • Eligible for UK Security Clearance (SC).

Desired skills

  • Background in maritime / underwater / defence systems.
  • Experience in system safety or functional analysis (FTA/FMEA).
  • Exposure to sonar, acoustic, or mission-critical electrical systems.
  • Experience working with engineering processes (DOORS, Polarion, Windchill, etc.).

Experience

  • Degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering or similar discipline.
  • Proven experience across full engineering lifecycle — concept, design, integration, and verification.
