This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute directly to the reliability, safety, and performance of embedded software solutions that support vital defence programmes.

  • Produce and maintain test documentation to support verification and validation activities.

  • Support the release of software into controlled build and deployment environments.

  • Collaborate with firmware, systems, and other engineering teams to resolve system-level issues.

  • Participate in system integration activities and performance analysis.

  • Provide technical support and mentoring to less experienced engineers within a small team.

  • Operate effectively in an Agile/SCRUM development environment, ensuring high standards of quality and accuracy.

Qualifications

  • Degree (or equivalent experience) in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

  • Formal training or demonstrable experience in embedded or real-time software development.

Essential skills

  • Significant experience developing embedded software using ADA.

  • Strong understanding of communication protocols, including SPI, UART, Ethernet, and PCI Express.

  • Knowledge of mobile and satellite communications systems and associated protocols.

  • Familiarity with model-based development using UML or tools such as IBM Rhapsody.

  • Strong problem-solving skills at both system and software component level.

  • Ability to work proactively within a small team and across wider multidisciplinary teams.

Desired skills

  • Exposure to missile systems or other safety-critical defence platforms.
  • Familiarity with formal verification, validation, or safety assurance practices.

Experience

  • Proven background delivering full lifecycle embedded software solutions using ADA.

  • Experience operating within Agile/SCRUM development frameworks.

  • Hands-on experience diagnosing and resolving software and hardware integration issues.

  • Experience working closely with firmware and systems engineering teams.

  • Demonstrated ability to support and develop junior engineers within small, high-performing teams.

  • Experience working with Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS).
  • Experience with network architectures and data communication principles
  • Experience working in laboratory environments using test equipment such as oscilloscopes.
  • Experience with modulation techniques used in communications systems.
