Overview

Expleo is a leading Global Engineering Services Provider with UK presence in 10 locations. We are seeking a Senior Power Electronics Engineer to work with our client, hybrid attendance at Stevenage.  In this role the successful candidate will apply their skills and experience to developing state-of-the-art solutions relating to actuation and firing units found in missiles.

 

We are looking for a proactive engineer, candidates with defence or aerospace backgrounds are of particular interest, with military, marine, or rail experience also considered valuable.

 

This position offers the opportunity to contribute directly to advanced defence technology, supporting the security of the UK and its allies. Ideal candidates will be collaborative, self‑motivated, detail‑focused, and methodical in their approach to problem solving.

Responsibilities

The Senior Power Electronics Engineer will perform, but not be limited to, the following activities centred on actuation systems for missiles:

  • Developing Concepts & Designs (general electronic inc. Power electronics)
  • Circuit Design & associated assembly technologies
  • Integration & Qualification methodology
  • Design for EMC & Environments
  • Obsolescence management
  • Development & Production support
  • Hardware fault diagnosis
  • Generation of certification evidence, such as writing design assessments, technical reports, and supporting design proving testing

Qualifications

  • Degree level qualification in a relevant subject, Electrical/Electronic Engineering or similar
  • A lower qualification would be acceptable for example HNC/HND should the candidate be able to demonstrate significant demonstrable experience in lieu

Essential skills

  • Power electronics design (concepts, circuits, switching, protection)
  • Analogue, digital, and mixed‑signal circuit design
  • PCB design and assembly technologies
  • EMC‑compliant design and environmental robustness
  • Integration, qualification, and proving tests
  • Hardware bring‑up, test, and fault diagnosis
  • Obsolescence management and component selection
  • Technical reporting and certification evidence generation

Experience

  • Experience designing electronic and power‑electronic circuits (concept, schematic, simulation, layout)
  • Hands‑on hardware integration into complex systems (preferably defence, aerospace, or similarly regulated sectors)
  • Qualification and verification experience (EMC, environmental, functional)
  • Experience producing EMC‑robust and environmentally resilient designs
  • Hardware bring‑up, test, and debugging of electronic assemblies
  • Fault diagnosis and root‑cause analysis on power or mixed‑signal hardware
  • Experience generating technical reports, design assessments, and certification evidence
  • Exposure to obsolescence management and component selection in long‑lifecycle products
  • Experience supporting development and production phases (manufacturing liaison, test support)
  • Comfortable working on‑site in a lab environment for hands‑on testing and collaborative engineering

What do I need before I apply

  • BPSS Cleared
  • Ability and willingness to travel to and work on the client site at Stevenage minimum 3 days per week
  • Ability and willingness to support work on the client site at Stevenage or Bolton 5 days per week (approx. once a month)
