Overview

An opportunity has arisen for a Dyno & Rig Coordinator to support the operation, maintenance, and optimisation of advanced automotive test facilities. This role is central to ensuring that engine, powertrain, and vehicle test environments are fully prepared, calibrated, and operating to the highest standards of safety, accuracy, and repeatability.

The position combines hands-on technical responsibility with coordination across engineering, test, and workshop teams. The successful candidate will play a key role in dyno cell readiness, instrumentation calibration, test execution support, and facility management, contributing directly to the development and validation of high-performance vehicle systems.

Responsibilities

Dyno & Rig Operations

  • Install and prepare production and development engines, powertrains, and sub-systems for dynamometer testing.
  • Set up and configure test rigs, including engine dynos, powertrain dynos, suspension rigs, and component test benches.
  • Support engineers during test execution, ensuring accurate setup, operation, and monitoring of equipment.
  • Maintain dyno logs, test records, and operational documentation.
  • Assist with engine strip-down, inspection, cleaning, and preparation activities pre- and post-test.

Facility Operations

  • Maintain dyno cells, test rigs, and associated plant systems in a safe, operational, and compliant condition.
  • Conduct routine facility inspections, including:
    • Ventilation and extraction systems
    • Fuel delivery systems
    • Cooling circuits
    • Emissions measurement equipment
    • Electrical infrastructure
  • Support planned and reactive maintenance activities in coordination with internal teams and external contractors.
  • Ensure adherence to housekeeping, safety standards, and operational best practices within all test environments.

Calibration & Technical Assurance

  • Perform scheduled calibration of:
    • Torque meters and load cells
    • Emissions analysers
    • Sensors and transducers
    • Data acquisition systems
  • Maintain calibration records, ensuring full traceability and compliance with quality standards.
  • Diagnose and resolve instrumentation faults, replacing or repairing equipment as required.
  • Support validation activities such as dyno correlation, sensor validation, and measurement system checks.
  • Take ownership of elements of the calibration schedule and ensure ongoing compliance.

Test Planning & Execution Support

  • Assist in the development and coordination of test plans for engines, powertrain systems, and vehicle subsystems.
  • Prepare test cells ahead of test programmes, including instrumentation setup and configuration.
  • Conduct basic diagnostics and troubleshooting of facility, rig, or instrumentation issues during testing.
  • Support both laboratory-based and, where required, vehicle or track-based testing activities.

Data Acquisition & Analysis

  • Support the use of data acquisition systems to capture and validate test data.
  • Assist in analysing results to identify performance trends, anomalies, and potential failure modes.
  • Collaborate with engineering and simulation teams to correlate physical test data with models.

Coordination & Collaboration

  • Act as a key interface between test engineers, workshop teams, and facility management.
  • Support communication between technical leads and software/control teams for dyno-based testing activities.
  • Contribute to technical reporting, ensuring accurate documentation of test setups, results, and findings.
  • Ensure all activities comply with relevant safety, quality, and industry standards.

Qualifications

  • Level 3 qualification (or equivalent experience) in Mechanical, Electrical, Automotive Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Alternatively, a higher education qualification (HNC/HND/Degree) in Engineering or Motorsport disciplines is advantageous.
  • Additional training in calibration, instrumentation, or test systems is beneficial.

Essential skills

  • Hands-on experience with dynamometer operation and test rig setup.
  • Strong understanding of test cell infrastructure and facility systems.
  • Knowledge of instrumentation, sensors, and calibration processes.
  • Experience with data acquisition systems and test data handling.
  • Ability to perform mechanical assembly/disassembly and inspection tasks.
  • Understanding of health & safety practices, including risk assessments and safe systems of work.
  • Familiarity with LOTO procedures and general workshop safety standards.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose technical faults in equipment and instrumentation.
  • Good organisational skills, with the ability to manage logs, calibration records, and test documentation.

Desired skills

  • Experience with hybrid and electric powertrain testing.
  • Familiarity with vehicle dynamics, aerodynamics, and powertrain performance concepts.
  • Experience with automated testing systems and HiL environments.
  • Knowledge of control systems and software integration within test environments.
  • Experience supporting motorsport or high-performance vehicle development programmes.
  • Certifications such as:
    • Confined Space Training (Level 2/3)
    • LOTO Certification
    • High Voltage (HV) Safety Training

Experience

  • Proven experience working in automotive, motorsport, or high-performance engineering test environments.
  • Experience operating and maintaining engine or powertrain dynamometers.
  • Hands-on experience with test rigs, instrumentation, and facility systems.
  • Experience supporting test execution and validation activities.
  • Familiarity with calibration standards and traceability requirements.
  • Experience working in cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Exposure to data acquisition and analysis tools (e.g. MATLAB, Simulink, ATLAS, or similar) is advantageous.
