Overview

We are looking for a motivated Automotive Battery Frame Prototype Build Engineer to support the development and assembly of prototype battery frame structures for next-generation vehicle programmes working with our client in the West Midlands. This role is ideal for an engineer with a solid mechanical engineering background who is looking to develop their skills in automotive prototype builds, BIW structures, and welding technologies.

you will assist with the design, build, testing, and continuous improvement of battery frame assemblies, supporting prototype vehicle development from concept through to validation. 

Responsibilities

  • Support the design and development of prototype battery frame and structural assemblies.
  • Assist with prototype build activities, ensuring components and assemblies meet engineering requirements.
  • Work with design, manufacturing, and prototype build teams to resolve engineering and build issues.
  • Support the creation and maintenance of CAD models, engineering drawings, and technical documentation.
  • Participate in design reviews and contribute to engineering problem-solving activities.
  • Assist in evaluating welding and joining methods used in battery frame construction.
  • Support investigations into build concerns, dimensional issues, and manufacturing challenges.
  • Help implement engineering changes and design updates throughout prototype development.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement activities relating to design, assembly, and manufacturing processes.

Qualifications

  • Degree or HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline.

Essential skills

  • Basic understanding of mechanical design principles and engineering drawings.
  • Knowledge of Body-in-White (BIW) structures or automotive vehicle systems.
  • Awareness of common welding and joining processes used in automotive manufacturing.
  • Experience using CAD software such as CATIA, NX, Creo
  • Understanding of GD&T and basic dimensional control principles.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work within a cross-functional team.
  • Proactive attitude with a willingness to learn and develop technical expertise.

Desired skills

  • Exposure to prototype build, manufacturing, or vehicle development environments.
  • Familiarity with battery enclosures, EV systems, or structural components.
