Overview

Expleo is a trusted partner for engineering, quality services, and digital transformation. We collaborate with world-leading aerospace manufacturers, delivering cutting-edge solutions in structural analysis, finite element modelling, numerical simulation, and certification support. At Expleo, we foster innovation, technical excellence, and professional growth, empowering our teams to shape the future of aerospace engineering.

We are seeking principal MBSE Engineers to support the delivery of next-generation combat air capabilities.  This capability will transform the way complex aerospace systems are developed through the adoption of Digital Engineering, Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), virtual integration environments and data-driven engineering practices. As a Principal MBSE Engineer, you will be responsible for leading the development and deployment of model-based approaches that enable collaboration, traceability and system integration across complex, software-defined combat air systems.

Working across multidisciplinary teams and partner organisations, you will support the creation of connected engineering models that link operational needs, requirements, architecture, verification activities and assurance evidence within an integrated digital engineering environment. The role will play a key part in enabling Digital Thread implementation, model-based decision making and accelerated capability delivery. Concepts such as digital thread, digital twins, integrated modelling and MBSE-driven traceability are explicitly referenced in internal material.

This role offers an opportunity to influence future combat air capability through the development, integration and optimisation of advanced sensing architectures, supporting delivery across the full engineering lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the client to lead the application of MBSE methodologies across complex aerospace and defence programmes.
  • Develop and maintain system architecture models, behavioural models and engineering frameworks.
  • Establish modelling standards, governance processes and modelling best practice.
  • Support the development of Digital Engineering strategies and deployment roadmaps.
  • Define modelling approaches that support requirements, architecture, verification and validation activities.
  • Support Digital Thread implementation across programme lifecycle activities.
  • Lead technical reviews and architecture assessments.
  • Work collaboratively with customer, supplier and partner organisations.
  • Support integration of modelling activities within wider engineering, software, safety and assurance processes.
  • Mentor and develop MBSE practitioners within project teams.
  • Support business development, capability development and technical leadership activities.

Qualifications

  • Degree qualified in Systems Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or a related STEM discipline.
  • Applications are also welcomed from individuals with significant demonstrable experience who don’t hold formal qualifications.
  • Professional registration or working towards Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.

Essential skills

  • Strong Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) expertise
  • Requirements engineering and end-to-end traceability management.
  • Digital Engineering methodologies and lifecycle integration.
  • Development and management of Digital Thread strategies.
  • Systems architecture and interface modelling.
  • Verification and validation planning within model-based environments.
  • Integration of requirements, architecture, test and assurance evidence.
  • Governance and configuration management of engineering models.
  • Stakeholder management and technical leadership.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Model-Based Testing (MBT).
  • Digital Twin concepts and implementation.
  • Open Mission Systems architectures.
  • Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA).
  • Virtual Integration and Test Environments.
  • Synthetic environments and simulation frameworks.
  • Data-centric engineering approaches.
  • Software-defined system architectures.
  • AI-enabled and autonomous system development environments.
  • Knowledge of combat air domain architectures.

Experience

  • Significant experience delivering systems engineering activities within aerospace, defence or other highly regulated industries.
  • Proven experience leading MBSE activities on complex programmes.
  • Experience developing architecture, requirements and verification models.
  • Experience supporting multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Experience in modelling in one of the following environments:
    • Cameo Systems Modeler / Cameo Enterprise Architecture.   (Desired)
    • Teamwork Cloud.
    • Capella.
    • Sparx Enterprise Architect.
  • Experience developing system architecture models using SysML.
