Overview

The Panels Surface Treatments Technician is responsible for producing consistently high-quality products in line with production paperwork, while maintaining strict alignment with quality, cost, and delivery targets. This role requires certification of competence against the area skills matrix and the ability to execute production activities within defined timescales and the production plan.

We are now looking for experienced Technicians to continue their career within AIT Mechanical Operations as part of a company expanding its internal space capability.

Responsibilities

  • Production & Quality: Work as a member of an AIT Operations team to consistently produce items that conform to all quality requirements. Ensure all production activities are executed within the required timescale and adhere to the production plan.
  • Technical Compliance: Work in accordance with the Local Document System (LDS) for methods and procedures. Comply with standard processes, specific area requirements, and all health and safety protocols.
  • Operational Standards: Promote and follow Cleanroom Regulations, local health and safety requirements, and 5S policies within the work area. Actively participate in maintaining 5S disciplines and continuous improvement activities.
  • Communication & Reporting: Provide progress reports to the Lead Technician or Team Lead as required and contribute input to shop floor meetings. Participate in shift handovers to ensure job progression through shift changes.
  • Collaboration & Development: Support trainees within the department and participate in training as mandated by the management team. Maintain flexibility and mobility across MAIT operational teams, supporting business workload requirements as necessary.
  • Operational Activities: Perform a range of technical tasks including:
    • Component masking
    • Spray painting
    • Grit blasting
    • Crane operation
    • Acid etching
    • Surface treatments
    • Adhesive mixing and measuring
    • Industrial oven usage

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree, or equivalent, with proven practical Engineering & manufacturing knowledge and experience.
  • Candidates without accredited qualifications will be considered depending upon experience

Essential skills

  • Ability to work from detailed drawings and electronic work instructions within specific procedures.
  • Ability to work at height.
  • Collaborative mindset for cross-functional teamwork; proactive attitude toward continuous improvement.
  • Unwavering adherence to Health & Safety protocols, including cleanroom requirements.

Desired skills

  • Ability to operate and maintain spraying equipment.
  • Ability to mix paint compounds according to manufacturer criteria.
  • Knowledge of spray booth and oven capabilities and the ability to monitor them to achieve maximum efficiency.
  • Awareness of waste disposal management protocols.

Experience

  • Experience in a technician role within toolmaking, sheet metal working, or general manufacturing.
  • Experience working within a cleanroom environment and demonstrated team leadership skills.
  • Proven experience working to established procedures with checkpoints and quality gates.
  • Experience in high-precision industries (e.g., Space, Aerospace, Automotive, Motorsport) performing surface treatment activities, including masking, spray painting, grit blasting, crane operation, acid etching, adhesive mixing, and industrial oven usage.
