Overview

Expleo is seeking an IT Infrastructure Engineer to support a defence engineering programme. Working as part of an established infrastructure team, the successful candidate will deliver updates to existing environments and support the design, implementation and operation of new computing infrastructure.

The role covers network, server, virtualisation, monitoring and security-related infrastructure. It combines project delivery with practical operational support for reference and live environments, including third-line support for transitioned infrastructure. Delivery will follow Agile ways of working and established configuration and change-management processes.

 

Role is Farnborough based (min 3 days on site) with travel to Malvern and Scotland on a regular basis.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure and maintain IT infrastructure environments, including network and security components.
  • Deliver infrastructure updates and support the design and implementation of new computing environments.
  • Provide project-driven infrastructure support to help achieve agreed schedule, budget, security and quality expectations.
  • Act as a subject-matter resource for IT infrastructure and provide practical technical guidance to the wider team.
  • Support reference and live environments during project delivery and provide third-line support for transitioned infrastructure.
  • Apply engineering good practice for configuration management, change control and technical assurance.
  • Produce and maintain clear technical documentation to support installation, operation, support and project delivery.
  • Investigate infrastructure faults and performance issues, identify root causes and implement appropriate resolutions.
  • Share knowledge across the team and contribute to the development of cross-team operational support capability.
  • Work collaboratively within Agile delivery teams and engage effectively with engineering, project and customer stakeholders.
  • Travel to customer and project sites when required.

Qualifications

Essential

  • College diploma, university degree or equivalent practical experience in IT, computing, networking, engineering or a related discipline.
  • UK nationality is preferred due to the nature of the programme and its security requirements.

Desirable

  • Relevant Microsoft, VMware or networking certification.
  • CCNA-level networking knowledge or an equivalent industry certification.
  • Current UK Security Clearance.

Essential skills

  • Good understanding of enterprise IT infrastructure and secure infrastructure principles.
  • Networking knowledge at approximately CCNA level.
  • Understanding of information security principles and secure configuration practices.
  • Understanding of configuration management and controlled infrastructure change.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including technical documentation.
  • Ability to self-initiate, manage priorities and deliver with limited supervision.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
  • Adaptability and willingness to learn new infrastructure technologies and processes.
  • Knowledge of data protection and privacy principles relevant to IT infrastructure.

Experience

Required experience

  • Installing, configuring, supporting or upgrading IT infrastructure.
  • Supporting virtualised server environments and associated network services.
  • Working with Windows Server infrastructure.
  • Monitoring, diagnosing and resolving infrastructure issues.
  • Producing technical documentation and following formal change and configuration processes.
  • Providing infrastructure support within project delivery or operational environments.
  • Working with technical and non-technical stakeholders to progress delivery and resolve issues.
  • Hands-on experience with VMware virtualised environments.
  • Experience administering Windows Server environments.
  • Experience monitoring infrastructure using SolarWinds or a comparable monitoring platform.

Desirable experience

  • Designing and implementing new computing infrastructure.
  • Supporting infrastructure with enhanced security requirements.
  • Working across reference, test and live environments.
  • Defence, maritime, test and evaluation, or other safety/security-conscious programmes.
  • Supporting geographically dispersed sites and travelling to customer locations.
  • Experience working in an Agile environment using Scrum methods.
  • Experience using Jira and Confluence.
  • Experience supporting infrastructure within defence, government or another regulated environment.
  • Experience providing third-line operational support for live services.

What do I need before I apply

  • Hybrid working is available, with Farnborough or Portsmouth preferred as the primary location. Bristol may be considered but is not preferred.
  • UK nationals are preferred. Current SC clearance is preferred but is not mandatory. Candidates must be willing and eligible to undergo the security screening required for the assignment.
